Jerusalem Stone
Jerusalem stone is a limestone, a kind of mineral classified as dolomitic limestone.
Sedimentary rocks are limestones containing minerals with amounts of over 30% calcium carbonate. When the main mineral is dolomite, the sedimentary rock is called dolomitic limestone.
The dolomite, named after the French naturalist and geologist, Déodat de Dolomieu, is a calcium magnesium carbonate mineral abundant in nature as dolomitic rocks, which are used as source of magnesium, particularly for the manufacturing of refractory materials. In dolomite there is a solid solution between magnesium and iron. The extreme in iron is called siderite and the extreme in magnesium is called magnesite.
The origin of the dolomite is a major geological enigma, since there is not much known about its genesis. Some of the models proposed are hydrothermal, with fluids coming from great depths through geological faults also very deep; source models from microbial interaction in hypersaline environments; models of mixtures of fresh and salty water, and many others.
Jerusalem stone is particularly known as the strong and durable dolomitic limestone, among the top 12 in the world. This material reached fame worldwide for its range of high density, and both power and resistance have been proven under extreme weather conditions of heat, cold, dry weather, heavy rain, strong winds and snow. It stands weather changes over time.
Since rock formations differ in nature from place to place, the features of the stones extracted from these rocks varies, giving versatility to the product.
This is why Jerusalem stones can be produced, packed and provided according to all different requested applications. Jerusalem stones are intended for the following purposes:
Floors, wall and column facings (indoor and outdoor), special elements, panels, mosaics, decorative pieces, kitchen and bathroom furniture, pool finishing, tabletops, objects carved with religious motifs, and gravestones. Colours also feature a great diversity such as white, red, blue, grey, black, cream and golden.
Thousands of years ago, Jerusalem stones were exported to very distant lands for building temples.
Today Jerusalem Stone brings to customers the same stones which felt the steps and the touch of kings, prophets, saints and other biblical characters who will be revered forever worldwide. This magnetism and fascination of the Jerusalem stones is what makes them unique.
